The British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG)
Background
The British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG) was established in 1989 to offer an independent speciality group for nurses and healthcare professionals with an interest in dermatology. The group was established within the associated members group of the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) and benefits from sharing headquarters and administrative support with the BAD.
The aims of the BDNG are to:
Promote the development of the highest standard of care for the patient receiving dermatological care;
Promote the development and recognition of the nurse's role in dermatology, for the benefit of the patient;
Promote and support education of nurses for their role in dermatology;
Promote and support research into all aspects of dermatology nursing and dermatological patient care;
Provide a source of expertise for nurses facing clinical and managerial challenges in the field of dermatology nursing;
Provide a forum for the dissemination of developments and knowledge in the field of dermatology nursing.
Membership
Membership of the group is open to anyone interested in dermatological nursing upon application. Registered nurses from the UK may apply for ordinary membership, non-registered nurses, registered nurses from overseas and healthcare professionals may apply for associated membership (associate members are non-voting members of the BDNG). Candidates for membership of the group may work in primary of secondary care areas. Candidates who do not practice any dermatological nursing and all associate members should be proposed by a member of the Group from personal knowledge. All applications must be approved by the BDNG Executive Committee.
