THE BRITISH SKIN FOUNDATION (BSF)

The British Skin Foundation is the UK charity dedicated to raising money for research into many skin diseases, their treatments, prevention and possible cure. Our aim is to reduce the suffering of the many people in the UK whose life is affected by skin disease and skin cancer.

Every year the British Skin Foundation donates almost £700,000 to research projects, into a range of skin diseases.

We only support very high quality basic and clinical research. Unfortunately we always have more demand on the money that is available.

The research we have supported is already having an effect on patient care.  As a snapshot of success we have for example improved the way in which laser treatment reduces birthmarks in children. The development of the biologics for patients with severe psoriasis was in part based on BSF funded research. We have also improved the treatment of acne, eczema, cellulitis and psoriasis through patient trials. In addition, on a daily basis we provide patients with vital and practical information in skin diseases.

Our overheads are generously met by the British Association of Dermatologists, allowing donations to be put directly towards our goals.

We are grateful to colleagues who gift aid on a regular basis and to organisations such as the PCDS who also regularly contribute to the BSF.
