Where there is any or all of: more than one type of network in a lesion. asymmetrically distributed network. thickened lines in a network, with lines thicker than the holes in between them

What the structures correspond to histologically
Asymmetry is often due to dysregulated growth. Thickened lines are due to melanocyte proliferation filling up the rete ridges, widening them.

Lesions in which the structures arise
Atypical networks are seen in dysplastic naevi and melanoma.
