Comedo-like openings

Dermoscopic Description
Round or irregular shaped clods, often irregularly scattered, but can be grouped. When seen through the scope directly, they can be seen as three dimensional structures, as an opening on the surface of the lesion. Commonly brown, black or yellow and may appear “grainy”. Best seen with non-polarised light.

What the structures correspond to histologically
Epidermal invaginations filled with keratin.

Lesions in which the structures arise
Most commonly found in some types of seborrhoeic keratoses. Can also be found in larger palpable naevi. Rarely found in melanoma.
