Leaf-like structures

Dermoscopic Description
Homogeneous, often irregular, brown clods at the edge of a lesion, radiating from a common point, which may resemble a leaf (in classic metamorphic terms, “maple leaf” structure).

What the structures correspond to histologically
Aggregates of pigmented basal cell carcinoma cells in the epidermis and superficial dermis.

Lesions in which the structures arise
In the absence of a network these are highly suggestive of a basal cell carcinoma.
