Brown or black lines at the edge of a melanocytic lesion that do not form part of a pigment network, or extend beyond it.

What the structures correspond to histologically
Confluent junctional nests of pigmented melanocytes at the periphery of a lesion indicating radial growth.

Lesions in which the structures arise
Melanoma, and occasionally Spitz naevi.
