The Ealing Network Dermatology Service

DATE OF DOCUMENT: Feb 25, 2021

Background information

As a Network of nearly 60k patients, we decided to start this as a weekly service from Feb 2020, to try to reduce the number of referrals sent to dermatology OPD. I did 7 weekly clinics until stopped by COVID before the end of March. We had a pilot of 15 weekly clinics.

I was asked to do this as I had been a GPSI in dermatology and did three clinics each fortnight for Ealing PCT, one in Ealing, Greenford and Southall, seeing 10 new and about 15 follow-ups per clinic from 2001-5 and all the relevant surgery. My hospital referral rate was 5%. I stopped it with great regret, as I had no receptionist, secretary or nurse. During some of that time I was an honorary clinical assistant at Ealing Hospital.
