Skin surgery - epidermoid (sebaceous) cyst removal

Part 1 - incision

As is the often the case with cysts, the overlying skin has been stretched and thinned, as such a fairly superficial incision is required.

Part 2 - careful tissue dissection around and underneath the cyst

There are different ways to surgically treat an epidermoid cyst, this is the standard approach.

Part 3 - tissue dissection continued

It is important to have a good visual field - good lighting, appropriate equipment, and an experienced assistant all help

Part 4 - suturing

For detailed information on skin surgery refer to the PCDS surgical guidelines.
